With TSLPRB announcing 7,112 Police Constable (PC) posts and 275 Sub Inspector (SI) posts simultaneously, many graduates are wondering whether they should target one, or both. If you have a degree, you are eligible for both. Let's break down the differences.
1. Exam Pattern Differences
Both exams start with a Preliminary Written Test (200 marks) and Physical Tests. The major difference lies in the Final Written Examination.
- Police Constable (PC): The final exam is just ONE objective paper combining Arithmetic, Reasoning, and General Studies (200 marks).
- Sub Inspector (SI): The final exam is much tougher. It consists of FOUR papers. Papers I & II (English and Telugu/Urdu) are descriptive and qualifying. Papers III (Arithmetic/Reasoning) and IV (General Studies) are objective and decide your merit.
2. Syllabus Depth
While the topics are identical (Arithmetic, History, Polity, Telangana Movement), the depth of questions in the SI exam is equivalent to TSPSC Group II, whereas the PC exam is closer to Group IV level.
- For SI, you need a deep conceptual understanding of subjects like the Telangana Movement and Indian Economy.
3. Physical Requirements
The Physical Measurement Test (PMT) height standards are identical for both. The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) events (Running, Long Jump, Shot Put) are also the same. If you qualify physically for one, you qualify for the other.
4. Salary and Career Growth
- PC Salary: Basic pay scale of ₹24,280 to ₹72,850.
- SI Salary: Considerably higher starting basic pay and faster promotion tracks to Inspector and DSP ranks.
